Macedonian Pianist Dino Imeri Opens Piano Plage Festival in France

(www.culture.in.mk, 22.07.2010) - Young pianist Dino Imeri opened the Piano Plage Festival in Quistreham, France with a solo concert on 19th July. Imeri performed pieces by Schuman, Ravel, Haydn, Prokofiev and Chopiní. The festival has seen participation of pianists from several European countries including Poland, Moldova, and France. Media covering the event were fasciinated by the young talented pianist who represented our country to its best describing the concert as an event that would be long remembered in their town.

Premiere of "Vladimir and Kosara" at Skopje Summer

(Utrinski vesnik, 23.07.2010) - "Vladimir and Kosara," a play by Zagorka Pop-Antoska Andovska, the production of the JKP Culture Centre - Montenegro, Barski Letopis Festivall and the co-production of the Skopje Summer is premiering at the Kursumli An at 8:30 p.m. today. Directed by Slobodan Milatovic, the play is adapted and translated by Ljubomir Dzurkovic.

Beauties of Macedonia through Photographs

(Dnevnik, 23.07.2010) - An exhibition of photographs, "I Love Macedonia" is opening in the Bitola Old Bazaar at 9:00 p.m. today. The show consists of photographs taken in different places of Macedonia in order to introduce its beauties. The authors are Natasa Nikolovska and Bekim Mustafa. They say this is only a part of a cycle of photographs dedicated to Macedonia they plan to present to public audiences in future.

Turkish Donation to Museum of Macedonia

(Dnevnik, 23.07.2010) - The Museum of Macedonia and TIKA non-governmental organisation for improvement of Turkish culture in Macedonia signed a Cooperation Protocol yesterday at the Museum. The protocol relates to donation of euro 20,000 that will be used to reconceive a part of the permanent historical setting in the Museum - the Ottoman period.

Simon Trpceski Greeted with Ovation at Sold Out Royal Albert Hall Concert

(www.culture.in.mk, 20.07.2010) - World renowned Macedonian piano virtuoso Simon Trpceski performed at one of the largest music festivals in the world, BBC, in London's Royal Albert Hall yesterday evening as the soloist of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and their chief conductor Vasily Petrenko performing Concerto no. 2 for the piano and orchestra by Rachmaninoff.

Dzidzeva's Film at Festival in Palic

(Dnevnik, 22.07.2010) - An omnibus film by female directors from five countries in the region, "Some Other Stories" is taking part in the European Film Festival in Palic, Serbia today. The Macedonian film within the omnibus, entitled "Replacement" is directed by Marija Dzidzeva and is based on a screenplay by Gjorce Stavreski. The film has been chosen within Parallels and Encounters Selection that includes about ten feature films from several European countries competing for the best film Tolerance Award.

With Matica, Tri, Kultura - Summer Book Fair in Bitola

(Utrinski vesnik, 22.07.2010) - A summer book fair has been opened at the Magnolia Square in Bitola. "Unlike last year, we have a number of publishers participating including Tri, Kultura, Matica makedonska, Feniks, Martina and others. Readers are offered latest and attractive titles, translated literature of foreign authors, fiction, books for children and illustration books, as well as professional literature," says Ilce Stojanovski of St. Kliment Ohridski University Library in Bitola, the organiser of the event.

Following Montenegro – Compositions by Necak Presented in Portugal

(Vecer, 21.07.2010) – Marjan Necak, a musician composer of the National Theatre in Bitola has returned from international festivals in Portugal and Montenegro where he presented himself as an author of music for a ballet and an opera drama production. "Late last month I took part in a prestigious modern music festival in Portugal where my project, ballet "Before the Dream” was performed.

New Book of Stories by Vasil Tocinovski Published in Croatian

(Utrinski vesnik, 21.07.2010) - A book of stories by Vasil Tocinovski, "Susacko popodne" (Drought Afternoon) has been published by the Croatian Literary Association in Rijeka. The book includes 15 stories first published in one. Their themes and motifs are universal, general human dimensions as are their characters, however the time and space insist on and bear Kvarner colours, aromas and tastes. Written in a simple and warm language, Tocinovski's stories are read with interest and excitement.

Ninth International Antique Drama Festival Opens at Stobi on Saturday
Festivals : 

(Vecer, 15.07.2010) –The 9th Stobi 2010 International Antique Drama Festival is opening in a ceremony on the stage of the Antique Theatre at Stobi on Saturday. Theatre admirers will see seven productions performed by actors from Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia by 31st July. The festival, director Zoran Ljutkov says, will be pronounced open by the Veles Mayor and Darko Stefanovski, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture. The first production is that of the Kumanovo Theatre, Anton Panov's “Pecalbari.”

Ohrid Gets Longest Sculpture in the World

Exhibition of Michael Close, Artist of Macedonian Origin, in Ohrid

(Vecer, 23.07.2010) - An exhibition of works by Michael Close, a world renowned artist of Macedonian origin, will be set in the Sparcasse Bank Branch in Ohrid until 1st August. Close and his family are dedicating this show to 100 years since Mother Theresa's birth. "Following the example of Mother Theresa, Close uses painting as a link for connecting peoples throughout the world irrespective of their national and religious affiliation.

Works by Alemdar Exhibited in London

(Utrinski vesnik, 12.07.2010) – An exhibition of works by Macedonian-born painter Armando Alemdar-Ara, who has lived in Britain for two decades, has been opened in the London Galley of Modern Art. Several dozens of paintings, oil on canvass, put under a joint title, "Raw and Refined," which reflect the colours from the Macedonian region and first exhibiting drawings are a part of the author’s latest collection of abstract painting offered to the modern art admirers in the British capital.

In the past year, www.culture.in.mk has experienced expansion, with over 5,000 published news items, enlarging the total archives to 25,000 articles. The website provides a daily insight into cultural events in Macedonia, as well as representation of Macedonian culture abroad.
