Necropolises Dating from 3rd Century A.D. Excavated in Bitola

(MIA, 28.06.2010) - Necropolises most probably dating from the 3rd century A.D. have been excavated while archaeologists and workers were digging and arranging Bitola’s recreational zone Tumbe-Kafe. “All construction activities have been halted in order to examine the artifacts. The skeletons might belong to Christians, but the possibility of being pagan is not ruled out either.

Exclusive Findings at Carevi Kuli – Fourth Century Glass-Made Small Amphoras from Bronze Era

(Vecer, 17.05.2010) – A whole range of glass-made dishes dating back to the 3rd and early 4th centuries has been found on the Strumica Fortress. The most important among them are small glass-made amphoras that can be hardly found in Macedonia and a unique dish from the Middle Bronze Era, all found at the Carevi Kuli archaeological site.

Early Roman Man’s Head Unearthed at Stobi Archaeological Site

(Vecer, 19.04.2010) – A man’s head and a small torso have been excavated at the Stobi archaeological site. According to archaeologists, the items probably belong to a large Early Roman sculpture. Stobi National Institution Director Silvana Blazevska says this is about a rare and important archaeological finding that will enable knowledge about people at that time in more detail.

Archaeological Excavations – Culture Ministry Funds Kocani Area Excavations
Cultural Monuments : 

(Vecer, 16.02.2010) – Archaeological excavations at the archaeological sites of Pilavo, the village of Burilcevo; St. Atanasij, Spancevo village; and Lokubija, Kocani will be funded by the Ministry of Culturel. The Projects have been entrusted to the Museum Section in Kocani with the Annual Programme on Culture for 2010.

Restored Gallery of Icons Reopened to Public

(Vecer, 15.02.2010) - A Gallery of Icons located in St. Nicolas Church in Stip that has been restored with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, has been reopened to public. “All icons made by renowned icon painters who used to work in monasteries in east Macedonia between 17-18 and 20 centuries, have been restored and conserved, the Ministry says.

Museum with 2,013 Artefacts in Bitola

(Dnevnik, 16.12.2009) – A grand museum setting is opening in the Institute and Museum in Bitola at 7:00 p.m. today to mark the 75th anniversary of the Museum. Total 2,013 artefacts from the historical past of the Bitola region will be exhibited after they have been held in the Institute depots for years. The rich collection will be presented in a restored museum hall covering 700 square meters.

Ohrid Church “St.Perivlepta” to Receive US Restoration Grant

(Vest, 09.10.2009) - Ohrid’s 14th-century church “St.Perivlepta” will be restored through a US$650,000 grant, said US ambassador Philip Reeker at Wednesday’s exhibition “Art in Embassies”. The US Embassy applied with the restoration project developed by the Office for Cultural Monuments Protection before the United States along with 16 other embassies worldwide to obtain the grant. Three embassies received funds, among which the one in Macedonia.

4th Century B.C. Macedonian Royal Tomb Unearthed at Prilep Area

(Vecer, 22.09.2009) – A monumental round-formed Macedonian royal tomb belonging to the 4th century B.C. has been discovered at the Pavla Cuka site between the villages of Bonce and Podmol, Prilep area. The tomb was erected with a ring of monolith stone blocks weighing up to 2 tonnes which have remained intact despite their 2.5-millennia age.

U.S. Financial Support for Reconstruction of Daut Pasha Amam

(Dnevnik, 17.09.2009) – The U.S. Embassy in Macedonia has pledged donation of US$ 54,000 for reconstruction of Daut Pasha Amam, a monument of culture in the Skopje Old Bazaar. Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska – Milevska, U.S. Ambassador Philip Reeker, and Director of the National Gallery of Macedonia Maja Krstevska signed an agreement on the donation yesterday.

Figurines, Stone Tools, Bones, Ceramics…Unearthed near Spancevo

(Vecer, 15.09.2009) – Artefacts typical for the Eneolith including ceramics, figurines, stone tools and bones have been unearthed at St. Atanasij site outside the village of Spancevo. The findings result from probes lunched last year when a man’s head figure from the period of Eneolith was found, a rare archaeological item in this part of Macedonia and elsewhere.

Zrze Reveals Early Christian Basilica

(Spic, 09.09.2009) – An early Christian basilica has been unearthed during archaeological excavations in the Zrze Monastery compound. According to archaeologists, the basilica had two life phases: first in the 5th and 6th centuries, and second in the 9th to 15th centuries. It was discovered 100 meters to the north of the monastery.

In Veles - Latin Cemetery and Kale to Be Explored

(Vecer, 06.08.2009) – Archaeologists of the National Museum in Veles will resume excavations at two antique sites, Latin Cemetery near the village of Rastani and Kale in the vicinity of the village of Zgropolci. At the Latin Cemetery, a team of archaeologists will excavate a residential structure that was discovered by accident in 2006 during construction works for a new cemetery of the town of Veles. According to the head of the project, archaeologist Anita Vasilkova Midoska, the site belonged to the antique period.

Antique Bilazora Was Major Fortification of Macedonia
