Logo for 100th Anniversary of Ilinden Insurrection Chosen - Many Cultural Programmes, Coins and Restoration of Monuments for Ilinden Celebrations

(Dnevnik, 20.05.2003) - The commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Ilinden Insurrection will cost the country around 900,000 euros. The amount includes a number of programme activities - cultural events happening in the country and Diaspora, restoration of a few monuments of culture, jubilee golden coins etc. Around 650,000 euros - 570,000 by the Government and 80,000 by the Ministry of Culture budget - have been provided so far and have been deposited at the Jubilee Celebration Fund.
The Jubilee Funding Committee is trying to provide money outside the budget. Around 250,000 euros are still missing and if they are not provided the programme planned will suffer some alteration, Melpomeni Korneti, Vice Minister of Culture and Coordinator of Jubilee Celebration Secretariat’s Marketing Committee said. Korneti promoted a logo, “100 Years of Ilinden - 100 Years of Macedonian Statehood” and five more placards aimed at commemorating this year’s national jubilee yesterday. Out of around 10 projects competing within an open competition by the Ministry of Culture, a Ministry of Culture Committee selected and bought-out a logo designed by Marija Veteroska, a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje and five peers’ placards. The students decided to use the proceeds to buy a computer for the Faculty intended for student usage only.
Veteroska says on her logo design that she started from the basis - Macedonian statehood and strife for independence a century ago.
“I decided for a modern design solution, for a graphic approach and minimizing the emblem and logo, which are based on the colours and heraldic of our flag. It is impressive and can be applied in every medium and inbuilt in any other placard or poster. The diffusion is Macedonian striving to survive since Ilinden till the very day, Veteroska says.
The logo has already been uniformed and included in every placard. In cooperation with the Macedonian Post, the placards selected have already been printed on envelops. Around 50 great placards will be mounted on billboards throughout the country and jubilee golden coins (their size will be promoted on Ilinden, they will weigh 18 g. and will display the Cherry Tree Gun on the averse and Ilinden Monument in Krusevo on the reverse) will be minted. Smaller coins with the images of Ilinden fighters Dame Gruev, Goce Delcev, Nikola Karev, Jane Sandanski and Pitu Guli will also be coined probably including a coin with the image of Krsste Petkov Misirkov. Aleksandar Cvetkovski, Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts has designed the coins and they will be minted by the Macedonian National Bank by a Government decision.
Macedonian Information Agency (MIA) has joined the celebration of the jubilee creating a special section dedicated to Ilinden on its Internet page. The Ministry of Culture is opening an Internet page on the programme activities (www.1903.1944.1991.ilinden.mk) whose official registering is expected these days.
Around 330,000 euros from the total sum have been planned for restoration of the Ilinden Monument and a few other structures in Krusevo as well as a house in Smilevo where the Smilevo Congress took place.
