Commemorating a Jubilee - Permanent Values Emphasized

Gorce Petrov
(Makedonija Denes, 04.07.2003) - A list of prominent figures whose images will be presented in suitable coins within the commemoration of 100 Years of Ilinden Uprising has been extended to include four more names. This stresses the merits of ten great figures important for the 1903-2003 century - By a decision of the Government, the Macedonian National Bank has released four more suitable coins with the images of Gorce Petrov, Mihajlo Apostolski, Metodija Andonov - Cento and Blaze Koneski in this jubilee year. The extension of the already agreed list of figures put on the golden coins (Dame Gruev, Goce Delcev, Nikola Karev, Pitu Guli, Jane Sandanski, and Krste Petkov Misirkov), encircles a cycle of ten most significant figures in the past century who inbuilt their personal and professional integrity into the idea of Macedonian statehood.
Beside ten small coins, the National Bank has released a grand 18-gram golden coin with the image of Cherry Tree Gun on the averse and Macedonium Monument in Krusevo on the reverse.
“Actually, all activities we are making in relation to the commemoration of the century of Ilinden are generally directed to permanent values, Melpomeni Korneti, the head of the Marketing and Information Sector with the Secretariat of the Jubilee Commemoration says. “This is seen not only in the suitable coins that have been released but the activities for thorough restoration of monuments of culture related to the Ilinden epopee, as well as a few major editions that have already been published or are planned by the end of the year. Above all, I think of a trilogy published by Kultura and “Monograph on Delcev” by Dimitar Dimevski, The Trilogy published in honour to 100 Years of Ilinden, includes “Macedonia” by Henry Noel Breilford, “100 Years Present” by Veroljub Andonovski and the first volume of “Liberation Struggles of Macedonia” by Hristo Siljanov. According to announcements by Kultura, two more editions related to Ilinden will appear by the end of the month: “Macedonia 100 Years after Ilinden Uprising” by Dr. Ivan Katardziev, and Lozancev’s memories entitled “Ilinden Uprising,” where the author debates the views that the uprising was started prematurely. By these activities, Kultura will encircle this capital five-volume edition dedicated to the century of our statehood.
Teams of the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture are intensively working on restoration of memorials to ilinden and of Krusevo in general. It is about restoration of Macedonium Monument in Krusevo, the arrangement of Meckin Kamen area, illumination of the road leading to this site, restoration of the Foundry where a historic exhibition will be set, refurnishing Nikola Martinovski’s home housing a gallery of his works (100 years of his birth is commemorated this year) and restoration of St Nicholas Church.
According to the Ministry of Culture which coordinates all these activities, the foundations of a new Memorial House in Smilevo will be laid on August 2. The project for the House complying with the masonry traditions of this area has already been drafted.
