At the Museum of Macedonia on 100 Years of Macedonian Statehood 1903-2003 - Thematic Exhibition Meant to Develop into Permanent Show

(Vecer, 23.07.2003) - “We have made many changes in the area itself by restoring some elements in the existing ambiance. Reconstruction and restoration of some parts of the exhibiting cubes in their preparation for the new exhibiting inventory, showcases, panels, bases etc. have been made. But although illumination is one of the most important conditions of museum presentation, the worst variant is for the existing one to remain this year, though a little enhanced, Bojan Ivanov, acting director of the Museum of Macedonia, said informing on the preparations for an exhibition opening to mark the 100th Anniversary of Ilinden whose conception will develop into a permanent show after this important jubilee. This will finally rejuvenate the old exhibition because it hasn’t undergone any changes since it was set more than two decades ago.
The exhibition that opens on July 29 is entitled “Ilinden 1903-2003, Kresna, Ilinden, ASNOM, Independence.” Its author is Slavka Petrovska, and coordinator is Sofka Jancova, of the History Section of the Museum.
“It is about a historical narration that follows history backwards to mediaeval art and archaeology and forward to the upcoming jubilee and 2004 when the 60th Anniversary of ASNOM (Antifascist Assembly of Macedonian People’s Liberation) is observed. Going from one to another theme, the material displayed represents political and historical, and socio-economic, spiritual and other elements of the events presented. Material from the previous exhibition reduced and selected in a different way of looking at the events will be used in the upcoming exhibition, Ivanov explained. Conceived in a few entities, it commences with the 19th century, especially its second half, when the basic ideas supporting the modern reality of Macedonia were laid. Photographs (original and copied), weapons, old books and other items that were used in that period follow the main points of the cultural and military and political history of the Macedonian people until independence on September 8, 1991, with the emphasis to Ilinden Uprising.
