Events in Honour to Ilinden Intensified in Prilep - Hero-Town with Magnificent Mural, “Ilinden Epopee”

Prilep
(Nova Makedonija, 31.07.2003)- With the approaching of the Ilinden jubilee, the hero-town Prilep is preparing itself to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Macedonian great revolution in the most dignified manner. An exhibition, “100 Years of Ilinden Uprising” opened at the magnificent Gallery of Icons in the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum in Prilep. The exhibition presents documents, weapons and other exhibits from our rich history.
American Bob Palmer and four assistants are finishing an imposing mural, “Ilinden Epopee” on the east wall of the former Skopje Hotel, in the centre of Prilep. Dozens Prilep locals are the regular audience of the five Americans in creating their mural. Palmer expressed his urge to make this mural in just one sentence: “Everything for the Macedonian great uprising and the greatness of the Macedonian people...I am inspired by your sense of freedom, your undivided commitment to democracy and bravery, something similar to my American people.”
At least ten thousand people are expected to travel to Prilep during the holiday.
